Join Wethersfield Historical Society, the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum, and the Town of Wethersfield for the return of Heritage Weekend. On Saturday, May 28 at 9:00 am, the Town of Wethersfield’s annual Memorial Day parade steps off from the DMV and continues through Old Wethersfield, marching directly past the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center. WHS again welcomes Captain Sal Tarantino and Wethersfield’s own Second Continental Light Dragoons, Sheldon’s Horse to the lawn between the Hurlbut-Dunham House and the Keeney Center from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. At 11:00 am, Captain Tarantino will lead a libation ceremony in memory of fallen comrades. Joining the Dragoons will be Revolutionary War cannon and 18th century crafters.
The Keeney Center will be open 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturday and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Sunday. Currently on display are our award-winning exhibit Castle on the Cove: The Connecticut State Prison at Wethersfield; River, Land, and Sea: Wethersfield’s Maritime History; and our permanent exhibit Legendary People, Ordinary Lives. The Hurlbut-Dunham House opens early at 10:00 am on Saturday and our Cove Warehouse Maritime Museum at Cove Park will be open 1 – 4. Both museums will be open from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Sunday and on weekends throughout the summer. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
